A Comparison of Electric Cars - My Personal List

Posted: Thursday, January 20, 2011

by Eugene Redstone

Need to compare electric cars which are available today or will be available soon?  Maybe I can help.

I've wanted an electric vehicle (ev) since I was a child.  I'm subscribed to numerous ev newsletters and I'm a member of numerous ev message boards, and I've been reading everything I can get my hands on about the latest ev news.  A few months ago I even got to test drive a Tesla Roadster, which is by far the most incredible car I've ever driven (see my pic above!)

I decided a while back to keep a list of the latest developments in electric cars.  For some reason it didn't occur to me until now that I should make my list public so others can benefit from it.  It might not always be up to date, but I plan on updating it as I get more information.  If you have corrections or additional information, please let me know in the comment section.

I don't know when I could possibly afford one of these new ev's, but I promise you, someday it will be mine.  Oh yes, it will be mine!

I dare not even think about having one yet, Bruce. See the price list there....

The cheapest one $32,780 x RM3.5 = RM 114,730 far beyond affordable.

Cars, are men's first lovers, if not second. Probably you need Jean's suggestion as well !

Hi Bruce.

Thanks for sharing! Doesn't look like one of these is in my near future. Not until the prices come down and the ranges increase. I think ev's would be great for urban drivers. But out here in the virtual boonies where I live, I couldn't even make some of my regular round trips!

Hugs, Dianne

Interesting and informative, Bruce. I don't need to be looking at them. I don't plan to purchase another car. I only put about 4,000 miles per year on mine and that mileage is coming down every year. I only have two more years on my drivers license and I may not renew...if I can arrange transportation when needed. I may get me a mule and a wagon. Those things are permitted on the streets. I asked the police about a golf cart and they said no. Electric scooters and wheel chairs are welcome but not golf carts. Those wide open scooters and wheel chairs are cold in winter, I'll bet.

Tata Motors of India is letting the world take a glimpse at what may be the next big thing for the company - the electric Indica. The Indica EV prototype was unveiled recently at the SIAM Annual Expo in New Delhi and the car is slated to go on sale in Norway by end of 2011. You can have its glimpse at http://autobhp.com/manufacturers/tata/tata-motors-shows-electric-indica-at-siam-annual-expo/ The Tata Indica EV has been co-developed by Tata, with Norway-based Miljobil Grenland. The car will be fitted with Lithium-ion batteries, which will power its permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The Indica EV will have a range of almost 200km on one full charge, and a full charge will take eight hours. Prime Minister of India intend to but it for its official use, so says media reports. Apart from the electric Indica, Miljobil Grenland is also said to be partnering with Tata Motors for developing an electric variant of the Nano. The electric Nano and the Indica EV are expected to hit the Indian market by end of 2011

Nice info Bruce. Any chance we'll see the Nano from India over here anytime soon? Goes for a couple grand over there, shouldn't be more than..oh, 25 or 30 grand here. It's gas powered but 62 mpg would put a lot less money in Dick Cheney's pocket. Probably coming out with an electric but that would raise the price some, guess that would get us back up to about 40 or 50G. Nah, never mind, out of my price range again.
